Pro V1 is 5 ½ months old and has her two bottom teeth coming in. Pro V1’s teething has had its ups and downs, but she is handling it quite well. Of course you have the drooling and sleepless nights which are part of the teething process, but it is all worth it. Everyday Pro V1 does something new that just amazes Golfer’s wife and I. When you look at her, you wouldn’t know if she just made an eagle or triple bogey. She smiles and laughs without a care in the world. Pro V1 is the best golfer’s daughter you could ask FORE!.

As FORE! Golfer’s wife and I, we are hanging in there. There have been a lot of sleepless nights, late dinners and poopy diapers, but they are all worth it. We both have adjusted to going back to work and adjusting our lives around Pro V1. Of course that has meant less golf. That 4.2 handicap that I used to have is growing like Pro V1. Not sure which is growing faster though? When Pro V1 was born, I heard the horror stories of how my golf game would be affected. I ‘m here to say, “those horror stories are correct.” You cannot be a good golfer and the best father at the same time. I may not play golf as often anymore. I may not hit every fairway or get up in down FORE! par every time, but the sacrifices I have made to be the best father that I can be are without a doubt worth every stroke that I add to my golf game.

Pro V1 Is More Than Just A Ball

Golfer's wife and I had our first child bdorn on December FORE!, 2009 at 2:06 a.m. Now FORE! those of you that are new to my blog, her nickname is Pro V1.

Since December FORE!, Pro V1 has changed the way I look at life. Having a daughter is better than any hole in one, eagle or birdie that I have ever made. I could come home from the worst golf round of my life and her smile will make me forget about any shank, duck hook or slice.

Words cannot describe the joy and happiness that Pro V1 has brought to Golfer's wife and I.

Pro V1 is just about 13 weeks old and everyday she does something new that just amazes you.

I may never play as much golf as I did before and my handicap could go above 4.2. So what better way to spend Presidents' Day than to play golf at Woodcreek Golf Course. Any golfer should know that if you play golf on a holiday, expect a 5 hour round of golf. But how about a 6 1/2 hour round of golf? Well that is the nightmare that I survived and lived to play another round.

Woodcreek Golf Course made the first mistake of double booking my tee time in the middle of a tournament. Second mistake, they bumped my tee time back 1 hour. Third, no golf marshalls were on the course to keep the pace of playing moving.

With the perfect storm in place, we finally teed off at noon and waited on every shot. The pace of play was slower than the putting greens at Haggin Oaks. The perfect weather that we had, turned into the perfect mosquito feeding grounds. With the sun going down faster than Adam Scott's career, we played the last 2 holes in the dark. All in all, 6 1/2 hours FORE! 18 holes of golf and a score of 76 was still better than going to work.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Golfing Resoultions FORE! 2010

Let the 2010 Golf season begin. 2009 ended with a hole in one as Golfer’s Wife and I welcomed our first born baby girl aka Pro V1.

Here are my top 5 new year’s resolutions for 2010.
1. Golfer’s Wife and I. Since my last blog entry, a lot has happened.

The biggest news that Golfer’s Wife and I announced this year is the new addition to our family. We have a baby girl scheduled to join Team K&D on November 28, 2009. We are so excited to have our first addition to our family. Since we did not know the gender of our baby girl FORE! the first 20 weeks of Golfer’s Wife’s pregnancy, we nicked named her “Pro V1.” Everyone says that once Pro V1 is born, my golf game is going to suffer. We’ll see about that, Pro V1 and I will just have to prove those doubters that they are wrong.
Another exciting first FORE! me this year was that I was able to play Pebble Beach Golf Links in May. Pebble Beach Golf Links is ranked number one on "America's 100 Greatest Public Courses" list by Golf Digest. It is also the site of the 2010 U.S. Open Championship. Playing Pebble Beach was a daddy’s day present from Golfer’s Wife and Pro V1. What made the experience even more enjoyable was that Golfer’s wife and Pro V1 were able to follow and watch me play. The experience of playing Pebble Beach is something that every diehard golfer should do. From the caddie carrying your clubs, giving you advice and yardages to the breathtaking views of the course and coast.

FORE! the first time in FORE! years, I also changed jobs and went to another State of CA agency. This was a very hard decision to make. Leaving my comfort zone of friends and work FORE! the unknown. Lucky FORE! me, I have great ex-coworkers as we still keep in touch and meet FORE! lunch. In addition to working FORE! the State of CA, Governor Schwarzenegger has imposed a 3 day furlough on all State Workers which equals to almost a 15 percent pay cut.

If there was a positive side to the 3 day furloughs and recession, I got to play more golf because of the cheaper greens due to the golf courses needing business. Some of the golf courses that I was able to play FORE! unbelievable cheap green fees were The Links at Bodega Harbour, Northstar at Tahoe, Sevillano Links at Rolling Hills Casino and Trinitas Golf Club.

Here are some photos from some of the golf courses that I have played this year so far.

18th Hole at Pebble Beach
15th Hole at Trinitas Golf Club
15th Hole at Northstar at Tahoe
The Links at Bodega Harbour

These are just some of the major events that have happened so far this year. So with the perfect spring weather in January, I played golf this weekend at Lockeford Springs Golf Course with my buddies Adam, Andrew and cousin Matt. You could not ask FORE! a better day of golf. Beer flowing, cigars lit, trash talking, great golf shots, you name and we did it. I was hoping FORE! a better start to my 2009 golf season, but there were many signs of rust on my game. I hit iron shots, thin, fat, pushed and pulled. On the bright side, I didn’t miss a beat with my driver and didn’t shank any shots. I scrambled my way to an 80 FORE! my first round of the year. The shot of the day came on the 4th hole when my cousin Matt holed out his lob wedge from 86 yards FORE! birdie. If this round is any indications of how my 2009 golf season is going to be, I can’t wait FORE! the next round.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

DC’s photos from Lockeford Springs Golf Course

Disneyland’s Version Of Augusta National Golf Club

This last Friday, Golfer’s Wife, Dad and Mom and I took our annual trip to Disneyland. We could do no wrong on the golf course that day. We hit monster drives, knocked iron shots stiff, made eagle and birdies putts like they were nothing. We ended winning one of the most prestige Asian golf tournaments in Sacramento with a score of 15 under.

The next year as we were getting ready to defend our title, we pulled out because Paul came down with an illness that was later diagnosed as cancer and passed away later that year. What made this 2004 SASF Golf Tournament so special was that Paul’s older brother Greg told me that winning the tournament was one of Paul’s top golf accomplishments. When Greg told me this, it made me realize what an honor it was to be part of this event FORE! Paul.

When I play golf, I always play FORE! the love of the game. Not to take it too serious, don’t slam your clubs after a shank or say any four letter words after missing a 3 foot putt. You should treat every round of golf like it is your last because life is too short to stress over this game.

2004 SASF Golf Tournament Results

Governor’s Budget Proposal Targets Golfers

Governor Schwarzenegger’s latest budget proposal could impact more than 3,000,000 California golfers’ wallets with new taxes if his proposal is passed.

The NCGA is doing its part in combating the proposal through the California Alliance for Golf (CAG) whose office is housed at NCGA headquarters. The CAG and its executive director, Bob Bouchier, are working with a lobbyist in Sacramento to defeat the tax increase.

Golfers in Northern California can help through lobbying their state legislators. The next few weeks are critical, since the Governor has called a special session of the lame duck legislature to take up his proposal. There won’t be too many more opportunities to play golf this year. I was actually supposed to play DarkHorse Golf Club this weekend, but the two inches of rain that dropped in Auburn, CA canceled that plan.

Every year when the golf season comes to an end, I always reflect back on my season. I was very lucky to have a golf season this year since I had rotator cuff surgery in February. My doctor and physical therapist said that I would be lucky if I was even putting by September. With the help of Golfer’s Wife and the physical therapist, I was chipping and putting in March and started swinging a golf club in April. The goal of my season was to just play in the 6th Annual CalPERS Charity Golf Tournament in September. In May, I played my first post surgery round of golf at Bing Maloney Golf Course and shocked myself by breaking 80. I was surprised that after surgery my golf game seemed at its all time best. I broke 80 every round this year with the exception of 2 rounds. My driver was on fire with numerous drives over 300 years and the CalPERS Long Drive Champion Title to go with it.

I even had a great wedding anniversary vacation with Golfer’s Wife in Monterey, CA where we visited some of the greatest golf courses in United States.

I can’t complain about this year’s golf season. Over 20 rounds of golf, played some of the nicest golf courses from Sacramento to Reno and best of all, played golf with friends that enjoy the game just as much as I do. I can’t wait FORE! the 2009 golf season start.

2022 U.S. Open Champion

Ready or not Tiger, Here I come. Let me introduce to you Colton Hall. Colton is the 7 year old golf protégé of Darin Hall. Colton and Darin’s golf games are the complete opposite. Colton plays the game of golf like The Legend of Bagger Vance while Darin plays golf like Happy Gilmore. Colton took his first golf swing at the age of 5 and started taking the game more serious at the age of 6 when his grandfather “Poppi” signed him up FORE! lessons at the First Tee at Land Park Golf Course. Colton is currently a member of The First Tee of Greater Sacramento and is taking lessons from future LPGA Pro Tracey Nichols and former college golf standout Kristin Nichols. This was one of the best golf tournaments that I have played. Also, the best prize of the tournament did not go to the winning team, winner of the closest to the pin or longest drive, but to the team that made it through the entire round with the lowest pink ball score. Their prize was a $250 donation in their name to cancer research. This was one of the most thoughtful and meaningful prizes that I have seen at a golf tournament. Darin and I carded a 77 FORE! our best ball score. Whitney Oaks played tough with fast greens that were hard to read. I carded a 78 on my ball alone and thought that we might be in contention to win. What we didn’t know was that the scoring system was based on the Callaway Scoring System. We ended up with a score of 71.5 after the scoring system which was good enough FORE! 7th place. Even though we did not win the tournament, today was a great day for golf. Matt and I needed to play well today to redeem ourselves after our horrible round at DarkHorse Golf Club. The round started out tough even before we got on the first tee box because of the 25 mph gusting winds. We played 15 out of the 18 holes with the wind either in our face or cross wind.

After playing the front 9, Matt and I were no were close to redeeming ourselves. I shot a 6 over 42 and Matt shot a 15 over 51. With no signs of the winds calming down, Matt and I had to make some major adjustments if we wanted to salvage a good round. I started out the back 9 with a birdie on 10th hole, making a 50 foot birdie putt on 14th hole and a near eagle and tap in birdie on 17th hole. I ended up with a 1 under 35 FORE! the back 9 and a 5 over 77 FORE! my round. Matt also played better on the back 9 with a birdie on 14th hole and playing the last 7 holes 4 over par. He ended up shooting a 47 on the back 9 and a 98 FORE! his round.

There were many shots of the day FORE! me today. I made a 50 foot birdie putt and I hit a 295 yard drive with a 6 iron approach shot to the 487 yard par 5 17th hole FORE! an 10 foot eagle attempt. The round was up and down because of the windy conditions, but overall it was a great day FORE! golf.

Wild Ride At DarkHorse Golf Club

Today I played at DarkHorse Golf Club in Auburn, CA. DarkHorse was voted as on of the top 10 courses to play in CA. The course was in excellent shape. The weather on the other hand was a different story. With the temperature reaching only 60 degrees and winds gusting up to 25 mph, it was a pretty cold round.

It’s been 5 weeks since I last touched my clubs and it showed. I shot an 88 with 2 triple bogeys. I can’t even remember the last time I had two triple bogeys in one round or shot anything higher than 80. But I wasn’t the only person that was beat up by the course. I had two other single digit handicap golfers in my group that shot 86 and 88. My cousin who is roughly an 18 handicap shot 106. My shot of the day was on the 275 yard par 4 14th hole with a front pin placement where I almost drove the green. My drive was about 3 feet short of the green and 20 feet to the flag. I didn’t make the eagle, but I had a tap in birdie FORE! my only birdie of the round.

Even though I had my butt handed to me by the course, I can’t wait to go back and play 18 more holes.

Vote FORE! Thai "T.C. Chen" Nguyen

Last month, the Sacramento Bee had a contest to nominate your golfing buddy FORE! free lessons. So I submitted an email describing Thai “T.C. Chen” Nguyen’s golf game to the reporter and guess what? Thai’s golf game was so bad that he is a finalist to receive free golf lessons.

Here is the email that I wrote to the Sacramento Bee:

Steve -
My friend Thai is one of the worst golfers I have ever seen. Breaking 80 for 9 holes would be a major accomplishment for him. Thai is one of those people that reads every golf magazine, watches every golf tournament (even the LPGA), and is the only person that I know has bought “Golfing for Dummies.” When Thai is golfing, everyone is in harms way because he slices, hooks, duffs, shanks and whiffs his way through the course. He does everything but hit the ball straight. Even though Thai has heard more 4 letter words yelled at him by golfers behind him for slow play, he still loves the game. He was just telling me the other day that he hopes to break 100 in five years, when he turns 45. I think Thai is worthy of the free lessons because it would be safer for the rest of us golfers when Thai is on the course. The lesson would also benefit him because he wouldn’t have to worry about any pending lawsuits and his home owner’s insurance premium might go back to normal after the round at Lincoln Hills. Please help Thai, even miniature golf lessons would help.

Sincerely,
DC

Now with your help, Thai needs your vote. Click on the Sacramento Bee article “Who most needs lessons? Readers to make the call” and vote FORE! Many golfers do not know the importance of marking their golf ball. FORE! the past 15 years, I have always marked my golf ball the same way, with a black dot over the number. 5 Years ago, I added a black line over the PRO V1 to help me line up my putts. I have friends that play golf with me that don’t understand the importance of marking their golf ball. O foursome this year included Darin Hall, Steve Pieper and Michael Fong. Our foursome started the day off on fire making birdies on 4 of the first 5 holes. After the 5th hole, either the alcohol wore off, the bad luck pussy willow or the heat started to kick in because we went into neutral by not being able to make a birdie to save our life. It wasn’t until the 16th hole when we took a shot of Patron tequila and smoked a cigar with an unnamed golfer that we got our round back on track by birding the next 4 out of 8 holes. Our Hawaii FORE! O foursome was very happy with a total score of 8 under. The shot of the day for me had to be my drive on the par 5, 2nd hole. This hole was the designated long drive hole FORE! the tournament. I smashed a 320 drive that won the contest. I loved seeing the reaction from the other golfers in the tournament when they saw that a 5’5” golfer won the longest drive contest.Even though the temperature reached 100 degrees, it could not ruin a great day of golfing with a great group of guys for a great charity that we raised $275,000 for.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dc-golfing.blogspot.com/2008/09/hawaii-fore-o-surfs-lincoln-hills.html' title='Hawaii FORE! Chen” Nguyen. The round started off bad before we even teed up our first shot with winds gusting up to 30 mph. T.C. started the round off shaky as he was intimidated by the winds and the course. He ended up shooting an 80. Before you starting thinking that an 80 is a good score FORE! 18 holes, let me just tell you that T.C. shot an 80 on front 9 only. I won’t tell you what his final score was, but I can tell that he did break 150.

The wind was blowing so hard today that it took me a good driver and two fairway woods just to make it to the par 5 4th hole green. I then went to the next hole with the wind behind my back and smashed a 350 yard drive. Overall the day was a good round FORE! practicing knock down shots and trying to stay balance while swinging. I ended up shooting an 80 (18 hole score) which is my highest score of the year, but I can live with that since I had to handle the elements of Hurricane Nguyen and T.C. Chen.

Golfer’s Paradise

I just came back from my 2 year wedding anniversary vacation from Monterey, CA. Monterey is like a golfer’s paradise. On Saturday, Golfer’s Wife and I drove 17 Mile Drive. It was one of the best tourist things I have ever done. On the 17 Mile Drive, we stopped at four of the top 100 golf courses in the United States. The first course we stopped at was Poppy Hills Golf Course, home of the NCGA. But before we could even go into the pro shop, we got a tour of the Titleist Fitting Works Van. The Titleist rep showed us all the equipment, tools, club heads and shafts that they stock in the van. He also told me to wait until November to buy the new and improved Titleist 909 Driver and Vokey Grind Wedges.Next we stopped at The Links at Spanish Bay,
Spyglass Hill Golf Course andthen the Pebble Beach Golf Links, the site of the 2010 U.S. Open.
When we went to Pebble Beach, the Champions Tour was playing the Walmart First Tee Open. While I think it would be a great idea FORE! all members of the LPGA to speak English, I do not think it should be a requirement or rule. The LPGA is supposed to be the highest level of golf FORE! a female golfer, attracting the best talent from anywhere in the world. I think that now that this rule is in affect, you risk the chance of not attracting the best talent due to a player not speaking English. The LPGA should learn a lesson from Major League Baseball (MLB). MLB has players from all over the world, if baseball were to implement this rule; the league would fall due to the talent level of players that could speak English. I think that in any sport, you should let your game do the talking. If you start making these players speak a language they do not fully understand, you risk the danger of a player saying something out of context that someone could take offense to. If the LPGA does in fact start enforcing this rule, it should also be a requirement FORE! American players to learn Japanese when the tour plays the Mizuno Classic or Spanish when the tour plays the Corona Championship.

Golfer's Wife Has Putt Up With Me FORE! 2 Years

Today is my 2 year wedding anniversary to “Golfer’s Wife.” It was 2 years on this date that we were married at Whitney Oaks Golf Club. I also cannot wait to have a bread bowl of clam chowder.

Can You Please Stop Talking?

This weekend my cousin Matt and I went to go play Micke Grove Golf Links. We booked an early time to try to avoid the 100 degree heat. What we didn’t avoid was an annoying golfer that we got paired up with. The golfer that we were paired up with was a hack that “yacked” too much. He “yacked” the entire round about how he wished he had a golf tempo of Jeff Maggert, be humble like Michael Phelps and the confidence of Kung Fu Panda. I know that when you play a public golf course on a weekend, you have to be patent with some of the weekend hacks, but some people just need to “SHUT UP! FORE! the record, the hack that “yacked” had the golf tempo of our CA State Legislatures trying to pass a budget, was as humble as Chad Johnson aka “Ocho Cinco” and the confidence of David Duval.

Enough about the hack that yacked too much. Micke Grove was in great shape and the weather could not be any better. I shot another scrambling 77 while losing 2 golf balls. I was pretty happy with the round since I haven’t played in about 2 weeks. After shooting a 50 on the front nine, Matt settled down and ended up shooting a 97. Matt also agreed with me that the 2 week lay off hurt both of us. Or at least that what we are blaming all of our bad golf shots on. We could blame the hack that “yacked” too much, but that would just be too easy.

The “Fuzzy Zoellers” of the Olympics

Spain’s Olympic basketball team recently pulled a "Fuzzy Zoeller" by posing FORE! an advertisement which appears to show all their players using their fingers to slant their eyes. The course on the other hand was playing tough (greens were hard and lighting fast). As FORE! my round, I shot a scrambling 77. When I first meet my wife, I do not think she knew what she was getting herself into. She has turned out to be the best golfer’s wife. So to all those golfers who hold their wives purses instead of playing golf on those perfect sunny days, I thank your wives FORE! making my golf round more enjoyable, because your not their holding up play with your once of month golf game.

What's In My Bag?

In honor of my first post and favorite section to read in GolfDigest, I would like to do a blog on “What’s In My Bag?”

Driver: Titleist Titanium 983K, 9.5°, Titleist 4560 graphite shaft, 270 yards

3-wood: Titleist Pro Trajectory 980 F, 15°, True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shaft, 230 yards

Utility iron: Titleist 585H, 21°, Titleist Tri Spec steel shaft, 215 yards

Irons: Titleist DCI 990 (4-PW), standard length, 2° strong, True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shaft

4-iron: 190 – 200 yards
5-iron: 180 – 190 yards
6-iron: 170 – 180 yards
7-iron: 160 – 170 yards
8-iron: 150 – 160 yards
9-iron: 140 – 150 yards
PW: 130 – 140 yards

Wedges: Titleist Vokey, True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shaft

52°, Raw Mild Steel: 120 yards
56°, Raw Mild Steel: 100 yards
60°, Vokey Design, 50 yards

Putter: Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Newport 2 Mid Slant

Ball: Titleist ProV1

Now that you know what’s in my bag.
